The Agri-Food Meetings 2018 in the Comoros is a unique opportunity to discover local businesses as well as their traditional expertise and know-how. This year, the Ylang-Humblot's distillery and a Cycas processing company will open their doors for you.

SUNDAY 18 NOVEMBER - 8H30 à 16H30

The Ylang-Humblot's distillery

Located in Mitsamihouli, this ditillery will explain you all steps to extract the essential oil of Ylang-Ylang. Fernand Humbert is a producer in Grande Comore for three generations with an output representing a good half of the island’s production. Cananga odorata (Lam.) is a tropical tree, originally from the Philippines, mainly grown in the Indian Ocean islands. This "flower of flowers" (Malay dialect) was introduced in the early twentieth century in the archipelago of Comoros. The essential oil of ylang-ylang produced in the Comoros is obtained by fractional distillation of its fresh and mature flowers, and whose quality is unmatched in the world. It is intended for luxury perfumery, mass perfumery, the manufacture of cosmetics, detergents, deodorants and soap. With an annual production ranging from 50 to 65 tons, the Union of the Comoros is the world's leading producer of ylang-ylang essential oil. This sector accounts for about 20% of their goods exports. This visit will reveal all the secrets from the field to the distillation of this flower with golden reflections.

The saga of Sagou Cycas and its processed products

Located in Mbeni, the Saga of Sagou will make you discover Cycas and its processes products. Cycas is an easily cultivable perennial. The fruits of this plant provide almonds which, dried, have been widely used in the traditional diet of the Comorians for centuries. However, the neglect and non-exploitation of Cycas by most Comorian communities has led to its disappearance in some regions. The use of processed products, mainly flours and dried almonds, is developing again, which contributes to its domestication. The first studies conducted on the fruits of Cycas bring first positive feedback on its nutritional values. This visit will plunge you from the original territory of this plant to the processing plants.

WEDNESDAY 21 NOVEMBER - 8H00 à 11H30
